A photograph of a tiger from Pilibhit Tiger Reserve has won an award at the Global Big Cats Photography Competition held in New Delhi during Wildlife Week recently.

The event saw over 1,400 entries from across the world, including 70 from Uttar Pradesh. Photographer Jitendra Chaware received a cash prize and a four-day stay at Jagir Manor, Dudhwa.

Organised by the International Big Cats Alliance, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Arts Maestro, and the Uttar Pradesh Eco-Tourism Development Board, the competition highlighted India’s growing stature in wildlife photography.

Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav explored Dudhwa and Pilibhit Tiger Reserves through AR–VR technology, praising their biodiversity and urging more travellers to visit.

“This is not just a contest but a movement to deepen awareness about wildlife conservation,” said Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh here on Wednesday, adding that the UP Eco-Tourism Development Board, formed in 2022, is working to empower local communities and promote sustainable tourism.

Experts praised Pilibhit and Corbett Park for their exceptional lighting and landscape quality, calling them among the world’s most photogenic tiger habitats.

The ceremony was attended by MoEFCC Secretary, ADG (Wildlife) Ramesh Kumar Pandey, Prakhar Misra (UPETDB), and S P Yadav (IBCA President).
